Social Emotional Support

Social Emotional Counseling at San Miguel ensures that all students are:

KNOWN — We know your child and build meaningful relationships with them.
SUPPORTED — We provide resources and people to help them navigate challenges.
GROWING — We help students develop the emotional, social, academic, and personal skills they need for life beyond San Miguel.

At San Miguel High School, we believe that every student deserves to be known, valued, and supported as a whole person. Our Social & Emotional Support Department is an important part of that commitment, providing students with a safe and caring environment where they can navigate the challenges of adolescence, develop self-awareness, build healthy relationships, and strengthen their resilience. Because of our close-knit school community, our faculty and staff work together to know our students well and recognize when a student may need additional support.

Our approach is both proactive and personal. The Social & Emotional Support Department works closely with students, families, teachers, administrators, and other members of the San Miguel community to address concerns early and provide appropriate resources and guidance. Support may include individual check-ins, social-emotional skill development, conflict resolution, academic and personal goal-setting, and connections to additional resources when needed. We understand that a student's emotional and social well-being is closely connected to academic success, and we work alongside our teachers, Learning Support, College Counseling, and other student-support programs to help each young person thrive.

As a Lasallian Catholic school, we believe that education is about more than preparing students for college or a career—it is about forming young people who understand their dignity, recognize their gifts, care for others, and discover their purpose. Our Social & Emotional Support Department contributes to this holistic formation by helping students grow in confidence, responsibility, compassion, and self-advocacy. Through a strong partnership with families and a network of caring adults, San Miguel strives to ensure that every student is known, supported, and growing throughout their high school experience.
