Student Leadership

Student Council serves as the voice of the student body and plays a vital role in fostering school spirit, leadership, and community at San Miguel High School. Comprised of elected officers and class representatives from each grade level, Student Council provides students with meaningful opportunities to represent their peers, share student perspectives, and help shape the culture and traditions of the school.

Working collaboratively with school administration and faculty moderators, Student Council is responsible for planning and leading many of the signature events that define the San Miguel experience. Members organize Spirit Weeks, pep rallies, class-level activities, community-building events, and school-wide celebrations that promote pride, participation, and a strong sense of belonging among students. Student Council also coordinates Viper FORUM, San Miguel's monthly student recognition program, which celebrates achievements in academics, leadership, service, athletics, and character while reinforcing the values of the school community.

Through their service, Student Council members develop leadership, communication, organization, and teamwork skills while learning the importance of servant leadership in the Lasallian tradition. By creating opportunities for students to connect, celebrate, and engage with one another, Student Council helps cultivate a vibrant school culture where every student is encouraged to take pride in being a Viper and contribute to the life of the San Miguel community.

CORE Student Ministry is a student leadership program dedicated to fostering the spiritual life of the San Miguel High School community. Rooted in the Lasallian values of faith, service, and community, CORE members serve as faith leaders who help create meaningful opportunities for prayer, worship, reflection, and service throughout the school year. Through their leadership, students are invited to deepen their relationship with God while encouraging their peers to grow in faith and live out the Gospel values that define the San Miguel experience.

CORE members play an active role in planning and leading school liturgies, prayer services, and Masses. They serve as lectors, musicians, greeters, altar servers, and student reflections speakers, helping to create engaging and prayerful worship experiences for the entire school community. Their leadership helps ensure that faith remains at the center of school life and that every student has opportunities to encounter God through communal prayer and celebration.

In addition to their liturgical responsibilities, CORE members serve as retreat leaders for their fellow students. Through training, preparation, and collaboration with Campus Ministry, they help facilitate class retreats by leading small-group discussions, prayer experiences, icebreakers, and reflection activities. By sharing their own experiences of faith and personal growth, CORE leaders create welcoming spaces where students can build relationships, explore important life questions, and strengthen their connection to the San Miguel community.

CORE members also embody San Miguel's commitment to service and social justice by organizing and participating in service projects throughout the year. They help identify community needs, coordinate service opportunities, and encourage their peers to put faith into action through acts of compassion and solidarity. Whether serving on campus, in the local community, or through school-wide initiatives, CORE leaders model the Lasallian call to be attentive to those most in need and to work for the dignity of all people.

Through their leadership in prayer, retreats, and service, CORE Student Ministry members develop the skills, confidence, and faith necessary to become servant leaders both within the school and beyond. They play a vital role in cultivating a vibrant faith community where students are encouraged to lead, serve, and live the values of the Gospel each day.

Leadership opportunities within San Miguel High School’s clubs and activities empower students to take initiative, build community, and develop essential skills in organization, communication, and collaboration. Students who serve as club officers—such as presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and committee chairs—play a central role in shaping the vision, direction, and impact of their organizations.

Club presidents provide overall leadership by coordinating meetings, setting goals, and guiding the club’s mission in alignment with student interests and school values.

Athletic team captains at San Miguel High School serve as key student leaders who help set the tone, culture, and expectations for their teams. Selected for their character, commitment, and leadership, captains act as role models who demonstrate what it means to represent the school with pride both on and off the field. They are responsible for supporting coaches in communicating expectations, encouraging teammates, and fostering a positive and accountable team environment.
