Please join us in welcoming Bianca Aguilar as the new CIP Education Specialist. Bianca comes to the San Miguel community after years of working in the non-profit world. Originally from El Paso, TX, she earned her undergraduate degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX. Bianca then went on to earn a Master’s degree in International Education from the SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, VT. She has experience studying, volunteering, and working in Spain, Peru, and Mexico. Through exposure to working with high school students in summer camps and international programs, Bianca has been inspired by their determination, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning. As a student of Catholic education for sixteen years, she was drawn to San Miguel High School because of its commitment to education, multiculturalism, and dedication to academic, personal, and spiritual development. Bianca is excited to be working with the San Miguel community and exploring the city of Tucson. |

Large bat lingers on wall above teachers' lounge, Jorge (Bat Killer) Rascon seeks to find solution
"Bat Killer" Rascon (seen above) ponders a way to remove (or preferably, destroy) the potentially dangerous bat found by several Miguel teachers as they emerged from an air-conditioned lunch in the Teachers' Lounge while the Dean and others ate their hot lunches outdoors (the lunches themselves were not hot). It was not made clear to this reporter which teacher saw the bat first, but Mrs. Brady confirmed that it was indeed an actual bat. Mrs. Brady has studied bats intensively under the tutelage of Merlin Tuttle (alias Batman). Mrs. Brady said that if you can catch a bat with your bare hands (as can Manny Ramirez), then you should drop it immediately as it may be rabid. Foam at the corners of its little mouth can also indicate rabies (see Cujo).
For more one minute science lessons, please contact Mrs. Brady at San Miguel Science Magnet High School.
Upon further review, the bat is not really a danger!
