Charitable Remainder Trusts are right for some donors:

A charitable remainder trust provides a donor, and possibly other beneficiaries as designated by the donor, with a lifetime income. The donor selects the payout rate, usually between 5% and 7%. A donor receives an immediate income tax deduction when the gift is made, and avoids or reduces capital gains tax when transferring appreciated securities to the trust. Upon the donor’s death, the remainder may be transferred to SMHS for its charitable purposes.
